PhD is not only an academia challenge, but it also affects your social life. Spending years in conducting research, finding a topic, and then writing a thesis isolate you. You would feel that you’ve lost in the academic world. You are no longer the part of social interactions. During PhD you would have nobody to talk, and you will feel secluded. This leads to loneliness and stress. If you feel isolated, you won’t find it interesting and eventually you might give up your PhD course mid-way. 

This is true that you have to take out some time for your PhD project. The more time you devote, the sooner you finish your project. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to stay in solitude.

Finding methodologies and tools to narrow down the research gaps and introducing a new discovery is real panic. That’s why PhD scholars start simulating, but they end up with a screwed project. Your research and writing can be incongruous to the topic. Your presentation might be monotonous and have several silly flaws that will fall out of your research committee’s approval. Thus it is very important to treat PhD stress and loneliness. Here are the ways to overpower PhD loneliness.

Expand your network

Recent surveys have found that many PhD scholars are joining social media platforms to contact like-minded PhD scholars where they can create a community and resolve PhD-related issues. You can join journal clubs, reading clubs, and new students associations. 

However, experts should also be the part of your network. If you know who the experts in your field are, you can email them with a query on your topic, research area and thesis writing. You can also arrange a face-to-face meeting. You will be advised your flaws and the ways to rectify them. You should also join conference-organising committees.  

PhD interaction

PhD brings several unexpected problems to scholars. You may need someone whom you can discuss your problems. Sometimes advisors are not free to give you sufficient time to motivate you. In that case PhD interactions can be very substantial. Share the problems that you face with other PhD scholars. You will explore the ways to tackle your loneliness. In fact, this will make you feel that you are no more isolated.

Dig out new strategies

Writing seems boring and tedious to many scholars. To avoid monotony, you should write blogs. Many experts have started suggesting scholars to write blogs as it helps remove the biggest obstacle in thesis completion – writing. You should also refer some PhD books that will help you explore the ways of writing, presentation, and staying motivated. These books will help you have progress faster. You won’t feel stressed and alone if you are able to follow smart ways to complete the project.

Deal with PhD Stress

Your brain should be calm to focus on your studies. To turf off stress you should meditate. Many experts advise researchers to meditate to keep brain calm. Meditation helps you feel less lonely. You will not attract negative feelings and thoughts. If you are unhappy and stressed in PhD, you should meditate. This will help you focus and be more relaxed. You should also keep yourself self-motivated. Think positive and persistently keep making efforts towards your PhD goals.
